You have a wide choice of international airlines flying to our island. Air Mauritius operates flights to and from various destinations in Asia, Europe, and Africa.
If you feel like discovering the other islands of the Mascarenes, you may travel by ferries.
Inland transport
With the availability of taxis and buses, travelling on the island is trouble-free. Should you choose to drive around, you can hire private cars at the numerous car renting companies. A good variety of vehicles, at affordable rates, are available. Internationally known petrol stations can be found in all regions. For those who prefer guided tours, bookings can be made at tour operators island wide. Rates vary accordingly should thebookings be made individually or for groups. Taxis for day trips, bearing white number plates, can be hired at taxi stands or at the respective hotels where you are spending your holiday.
Buses are available and services are provided by major companies or by individually owned enterprises, depending on the routes. Schedules are as follow: 5:30 am to 7:00 pm in rural areas;
5:30 am to 11:00 pm in the main towns while in some places services are provided till 6:30 pm.
Health Services
In case of health problems, you have the choice between public hospitals and private clinics. Only public hospitals offer treatment free of charge. Different types of clinics operate here: ayurvedic and conventional. Besides, round the clock, free ambulance service is at your disposal. Furthermore, full service medical laboratories, offering a range of diagnostic services are accessible. Some pharmacies have a 24 hour service.
Police, fire services and others
If need be, just dial 999 to put you in communication with the emergency services of the Police. Every region of the island has a police station and in case of fire, it is necessary to call 115 for the Fire department.

If you want to enhance your natural beauty, several beauty salons are available for you. There are many well known ones here. In your endeavour to keep fit, gymnasiums and health clubs will gladly welcome you. Spas are also becoming very popular.

The main local newspapers are l'Express, Le Matinal, Le Mauricien, Business Magazine, Le Défi -Plus, Week End, 5-Plus. However, European newspapers are available at bookshops and shopping malls.
